Fire Chief Matt Peterson has been in the Fire and EMS service since 2003 working his way up from Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, District Chief and -since 2017- Chief of the Department. While completing his EMS schooling at Chemeketa Community College, he volunteered and worked for several agencies including Dexter Fire, Newport Fire and Pacific West ambulance. Chief Peterson has also worked as a wild-land firefighter at Oregon Department of Forestry, Oakridge Fire & EMS, Med Trans Neonatal ambulance and Rural/Metro Ambulance in Salem. He taught at Pioneer Pacific College, is an Instructor 2, CPR instructor and holds many certifications and licenses including Fire Officer 2, Hazmat Incident Commander, and wild-land Engine Boss to name a few. Chief Peterson continued his training by attending classes and courses across the country including the University of Nevada Reno Fire Science academy flammable liquids and gas course, Anniston Alabama COBRA/CBURN course, Colorado crude by rail and hazmat train car technician courses as well as attending the National Fire Academy in Maryland.

Chief Peterson has made several changes to our department including increasing staffing levels to better serve our community and our increasing call volume. Working with our neighboring districts including sharing duty Chief responsibilities on a rotating basis between Dexter Fire, Lowell Fire and Pleasant Hill/Goshen Fire districts. Updating or replacing our tools, gear and equipment including our brush truck and command vehicles. Chief Peterson continues to lead us into the future in the ever changing world of Fire and EMS.
